Transformative Design

A manifesto of my design philosophy, visually presented in 'zine form and created to advocate for a biophilic design ethos grounded in reciprocity and ecological reverence. I hope this empowers designers to be change agents and reflect on their role in shaping the future. We are uniquely positioned to take bold action to serve the collective well-being and justice for all.

About the project

Transformative Design: A Manifesto for a Biophilic Future began as an intentional exploration into my personal design ethos, and led me down a path that helped me to articulate that. This piece is the result of that, written in the style of a manifesto call to action, which helped me to reimagine my creative power as a tool for systemic change. Dreamy visuals, symbolic motifs, and layered textures evoke reflection, resolve, and the varied design in the natural world.

Biophilic design is rooted in the idea that we are not separate from nature but expressions of it. The manifesto seeks to illustrate the value of creating from a place of interconnectedness, reciprocity, and reverence for the larger ecosystem we are all responsible for learning from.

Project execution

As I worked through the copy, I envisioned simple botanical drawings intertwined with bold typography, and so the illustrations are where I began. I also used vector assets, textured overlays, and custom typography to blend digital and analog aesthetics; a nod to 90s handmade mimeographed 'zines. The layout intentionally disrupts grid conventions to reflect the transformation's nonlinear, emergent nature.

Each spread pairs poetic text with call-to-action prompts, encouraging viewers to pause, question, and engage. The work was prototyped for print and mocked up for digital presentation, allowing it to function as a personal artifact and a professional provocation.
